IF YOU DON'T KNOW....

I have one of the best kept artistic secrets as a big brother. (who is this guy?) He is doing big things and I'm proud to know him.... I made the following last night.... the painting was a gift for me and I shot some photos of him creating this masterpiece. The title is Faith, Strength, and Humility..... the adinkra symbols that are in the background of the picture are two of my tattoos...DWENNIMMEN (ram's horns, strength and humility) and NYAME NTI (faithfulness/by God's grace)... check out his website...watch this kid... he's gonna be big! This is what I get...

Last week, I discovered the wonder of Hulu and I shared with the world Requiem for a Dream, which in turn confirmed my lack of trust for doctors. Anyway, I have been watching Doogie Howser, MD as my background for homework for the last week. I am still in the 1st season, however, I managed to make it all the way to episode 10 to see the following:

In case you don't know what I'm talking about... Nine episodes were filmed before a black person (or any person of color) had a speaking role on the show. In Episode 7, there were visiting Japanese doctors that did not speak English so I guess that might count for the first taste of culture in a Miami-based hospital (Dr. Carruthers would beg to differ Occidental/Oriental = same cradle, I digress...) Anyway, the first role and 1) he is not a doctor as evidenced by his uniform. 2) the only one in the hospital with headphones 3) after the head doctor speaks on tradition, the black "orderly" encourages young Doogie to skip tradition and go for a weekend with the girl a subtle taste of 1989 sexual television innuendo....

Basically, all I'm saying is.... this is what I get for watching TV instead of doing homework (scholarshipping for my children)....


PS - As a student of film production... there are some serious flaws in the whole show from the perspective of it being based in a hospital, the majority of the story lines don't make too much sense. Good for Michael Crichton for raising the bar for medical television.

I haven't had the chance to actually sit down and write a blog post in a LONG time. Believe it or not, grad school is relatively demanding.... or it could be because I am the World's Best Procrastinator...whatever.
Anyway, I must admit that my admiration for my alma mater NEVER waivers. Everyday (I kid you not!), I am reminded of what an AWESOME place Howard is and that the people are unparalled....I just will not believe that you will find alum as influential and dedicated as Howard alum...
With all that being said, I am pleased to highlight this website posted by a fellow Howard Alum and friend Uchechi Anyanwu. She is participating in an AMAZING project with fellow law students and I am eager to share the program with EVERYONE.
