"Any writer, I suppose, feels that the world into which he was born is nothing less than a conspiracy against the cultivation of his talent - which attitude certainly has a great deal to support it" - James Baldwin
So far, 2009 has been the WORST year in the history of my life.
I am desperately trying to seek the worth of all these situations, but I can not.
Sitting at my desk, mulling at how much of mess my life has become (I was thinking academically at that point), I picked up my book of Famous Black Quotations.
Lo' and behold.... JB spoke to me.
What struck me first was: "feels that the world into which he was born in nothing less than a conspiracy against the cultivation of his talent" - this whole week as I have been attempting to catch up in my classes I felt like that this is why I am so misunderstood. I recognize (from JUMP!) that this program isn't built for me so I can not expect it to cultivate all of my intellectual needs, but as I attempt to be a scholar within the program I feel like defeat is inevitable. I have never been in a position where this was perpetually the case and because this is school I do not know how to deal.
