....OK SO THIS IS WHAT I THINK

The last few days, I have been in an extremely good mood.

No particular reason maybe. I can trace it back to watching the "Obama" look a like on Soul Train, or maybe the beautiful weather, I don't know what it is, but my mood has been amazing. However, this good mood has been characterized by endless singing and dancing. I have been into my music incessantly the last few days. Those who know me know that though I am a music lover, I really only listen to rnb and neo soul. I'm not big on hip hop or rap at all but of course I will bump Biggy from the trunk and appreciate a random Souljah Boy tirade as well.
Nevertheless, my playlist has been full of floetry, badu, devaughn, sullivan, robeson, dangelo.... you get the picture. Basically, I have a "in love with BLANK" playlist..... I have been acting like I've been in love all week.... and it feels good. No, I am not in love with anyone. I don't have a current love interest. I can not even think of anyone I would even consider talking to a little bit who is in my life right now.... thats not my point though. I am in love.... I just don't know him yet.... but he's coming.... cuz this week I fell in love with him. It may sound sick and twisted, but I get it... and honestly, on my own blog I guess it really doesn't matter...
Anyway.... the song I have been listening to almost hourly.....well its not really a song....

Floetry, "Fantasize"
I wanna do dumb things.
I'm talking: strolling-in-the-park things. Stealing kisses straddled on park swings in the daylight while the ice cream van sings little melody like...
Twa da da dum...Da da da da dum...
I'm talking some midnight dedications of rare groove tunes,
And all across London
we're using real names too, 'cause we're not fazed by who cool, who a fool.
See, I want to...
everything with you, so...

I Fantasize about you
said everyday
And I want to do just everything.
Said Baby
Said everything
and a I I I...

Now I want to run holdin' hands
See, I know that we can do this, in a field of purple grass sprayed with green and white tulips under a sky washed orange by an everlastin sunset.
And you know what???
I ain't done yet.
See, I want to catch a ride off some crimson- colored stallion.
We can sail off in a boat made of water, straight into horizon
And we could catch a lift on a cloud.
Thats silver lining's really platinum,
But you know what? (whaaaat?!)
I still ain't done yet.
See, I want to- (Wooo-ooooh)
And I was thinking we could-(said whaat baaaaby)
And if you wouldn't mind a little-(Oh yeah-heyy-yeah)
And if you're ready we could always--(Oh oh oh baaaby yeah yeah)
See-
"I Fantasize...(uh huh)
about you, (said you justa...)
everyday (everyday)
and I want to do just everything...
(thing for ya)
Said, Baby
(thing with ya)
said everything.
(everything)
And...I, I, I Fantasize about you,
Said everyday & I want to do just everything. Said, Baby, said everything. "I Fantasize about you, everyday & I want to do just...

So basically.... I'm in love with him....
his thought,
his essences,
his potential.
I'm getting excited.
I don't know why this is on my heart....

FINALLY!!! ITS HAPPENED TO ME!!!!

I can not and will not lie. I have been waiting for the opportunity to mix and mingle with my fellow black graduate students. I am so happy! Of course, I have found my cohorts within my department absolutely lovely. I just want to see the business saavy folks, the philosophy majors, the biomedical engineers, the rest of the folks who aren't dedicated to public service and other community oriented careers. Look forward to my comments after the meeting!

What's your decision?

I don't understand why people try to fake like there aren't times when your life comes to crossroads. Places where decisions have to be made. One has to decide to be or not to be, to do or not to do, to or not to..... These decisions are often made without thinking. There are the decisions that are made with thoughtful consideration, like the decision to jump into a relationship or end one for that matter. The decision to move away, start a new job, go to school, start a career.... those are the decisions that one thinks long and hard about.... but do people take the time to think about the bigger more significant crossroad or do they make haphazard and fleeting decisions when the time comes??
I think about spending an evening with Soledad O'brien as she was the opening lecturer for Latino Heritage Month at UD. She is great speaker, captivating, entertaining and quite enjoyable. However, as always there are the things that I tend to focus on.... one's relationship to community, there overt realization of self, self-awareness, responsibility to community and humanity.... just those types of things. Soledad commented on the fact to a young girl with an accent that was considering a career in broadcast journalism that losing the accent would not be problem and the classes would be cheap. My first and most apparent issue would be the dismissle of personal culture the culture of your family and language of your history.... the fact that that must take second place to your career is beyond my realm of understanding.... but it is even deeper than that. Soledad was raised in Long Island... she had a Long Island accent... that which is truly an American invention, but even that... that little bit of "otherness" was in her way of pursuing her career. She took the classes...found a husband that fit the picture....and is living her life.... Did she think about that decision? Did she think about telling that (speaking not only with her words but by her clear actions) to that young girl? Those are the big...life changing/altering decisions...

THE CHOICES people MAKE.

Sleepy yet dedicated?

see how I'm trying to me a good little blogger girl???

Since I suck at writing (I just found that out today) and I am trying to work on perfecting the craft on a personal level. They say that good essays (this is an essay right?) begins with an outline so here goes.
I. Introduction
II. UD Revelations
III. Reflections of my academics
IV. Writing
V. Misc
Looking good? Thanks.

I. Today was a scholarly Saturday to say the least. I read some more of "Ready for Revolution", which requires me to do alot of in depth research while reading so I can be sure to understand fully the circumstances which he speaks. I spent the rest of the day pondering Courtney's question of Why applied black studies? That involved a good look at my African American Studies Reader and a lot of analytic thought about the concepts of academic disciplines versus interrelated fields of study.
II. I do not know if this is a consequence of the environment or a testament to my own psyche but my commitment to scholarship is back to heights I haven't seen since high school, the last time I was a minority in the academic environment. Though, I did not fail at Howard by any means, however, I did not succeed like I know I could have in more ways then one. Though I found myself eager to be at school and within the setting, l never made it my duty to be a student of my own culture and history as it pertains to academia. I am finding a new passion for it, even if it may not be my full dedicated career, I know understand my importance personally. Its a war going on on my own people and it is my responsibility to fight it.... intellectual warfare (I'm going to finish that book too by the end of this semester!).
III. (I think I put alot of what I was going to say here in II.) The most important thing I am looking at here is the prospects of further education. I have no idea what I am going to do once I leave Delaware but I know I need to get my PhD somehow some way!!! Its my duty yes.....but I just don't know in what.... I was thinking maybe I'm just here to think some things out and and will get into the program at Temple or UMass or Berkeley.... I just don't know yet... its in someone's hands.... I just dont know where
IV. I don't know exactly what I had pkanned on putting here. I am getting sleepy but maybe I am just trying to force myself to write more and more. However, what I need is scholarly work so my first academic paper will probably be about Kwame Ture's memoir, which I will hopefully finish reading soon. Analytical book reviews are always a good writing exercise.
V. Misc? My allergies have been bothering me severely. Too bad I don't have health insurance (yet).

Goodnight.
